Q: When will Keyamah happen?
(I was talking with my friend to make him understand the urgency to go out in the path of Allah at earliest. Because any day I may dei, or Keyamah may happen. My friend opposed the possibility of Keyamah by today. Because the ALL the Pre-Keyamah symptoms have yet not exposed. My question is what Akida I should possess regarding the date of the Kiyamah. Could it happen today?)
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
Almighty Allaah says,
يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ رَبِّي لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقْتِهَا إِلَّا هُوَ ثَقُلَتْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةً يَسْأَلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِيٌّ عَنْهَا قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Translation: They ask you (scornfully) about the Hour (of Doom, O Prophet), when its arrival shall be. Say (to them): Indeed, the knowledge of its arrival is solely with my Lord. None shall reveal it at its time, except Him. It weighs heavy in the heavens and upon the earth. It shall not come to you, save suddenly. They ask you (about the time for it) as though you are apprised of it. Say: Indeed, its knowledge is solely with Allaah. But most people do not know (this).” (Al-A’raaf v.187)
يَسْأَلُكَ النَّاسُ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ السَّاعَةَ تَكُونُ قَرِيبًا
Translation: “People ask you (in disbelief) about (the appointed time for) the Hour (of Judgment, O Prophet). Say (to them): Indeed, its (precise) knowledge is only with Allaah. But what is it that shall make you realize (that it is surely coming)? Perhaps the Hour (of Doom) is (already) very near!” (Al-Ahzaab v.63)
فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى (34) يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا سَعَى (35) وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَنْ يَرَى (36) فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَى (37) وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (38) فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى (39) وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى (40) فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى (41) يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا (42) فِيمَ أَنْتَ مِنْ ذِكْرَاهَا (43) إِلَى رَبِّكَ مُنْتَهَاهَا (44) إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنْذِرُ مَنْ يَخْشَاهَا (45) كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا (46)
Translation: “Yet when the Great Calamity comes (to pass, it shall be utterly overwhelming), a Day when man shall remember all for which he (truly) strove; and Hellfire shall be brought forth for all to see.
So as for one who transgressed (against Allaah) preferred the life of this world, then, indeed, Hellfire is the abode (for him).
But as for one who fears his Lord’s presence, and guards his soul against whim, then the Garden c of Jannah is, indeed, the abode (for him).
They ask you, (scornfully,) about the Hour (of Doom, O Prophet), when its arrival shall be!
What have you to do with (the time of) its designation?
To your Lord alone belongs (the knowledge of) its ultimate end.
Indeed, you are but a forewarner to those who would fear it.
On the Day they see it, it will be as though they had not tarried (in the world) but the evening of one day, or even its morning.” (An-Naazi’aat v.34-46)
A bedouin once came to Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and asked him, “O Rasulullaah! When is the Hour, i.e. Qiyaamah?” Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Woe to you! What have you prepared for it?[1]” (Bukhaari 6167)
Only Allaah Ta’aala knows when Qiyaamah will take place. We should worry more about our actions and prepare for the Day of Judgment before it comes. Irrespective of when Qiyaamah will take place, death will come unannounced. We are not guaranteed even the next moment. Once death comes, our book of deeds will be closed. We should value our time and use it in a manner pleasing to Allaah Ta’aala while we have the chance.
It is narrated that Sayyiduna Anas ibn Maalik (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) said,
من مات فقد قامت قيامته[2]
Translation: “Whoever passes away, indeed his Qiyaamah has commenced.” (Hilyatul Awliyaa)
Depending on the lifestyle of a person, his bliss or his torment commences when death comes to him.
And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
