Hadith Question: Do not curse my Companions!

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Asalamualaikum.

Is it true the Prophet (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said this to Khalid ibn Walid (radiyallahu’anhu) after a dispute with Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (radiyallahu’anhu)?

Do not curse my Companions! Do not curse my Companions! I swear by Him in Whose hand my life is that, even if one among you had as much gold as Mount Uhud and spent it in the way of Allah, this would not be equal in reward to a few handfuls (1 Mudd) of them or even to half of that.”

Source: Sahih Muslim.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Hadith in reference is authentic. Hereunder is the Hadith and its translation.

Translation:

Hazrat Abu Sa’id Radiallahu Anhu reported there was a dispute between Khalid bin Walid and Abd al-Rahman bin ‘Auf and Khalid reviled him. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: None should revile my Companions for if one amongst you were to spend as much gold as Uhud, it would not amount to as much as one mudd of one of them or half of it.
