Impurity on clothes

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

As Salaamu Alaykum

I have a gas problem and I am madhur.

Of late, when I do pass wind, I am noticing a lining of liquid on my boxers. It doesn’t have a foul smell or colour to it but from what a scholar has told me is that if it exits my backside then it is impure.

Now the problem is that I pass wind often (hence I am madhur) – now with this new problem I have to repeatedly change before every salaah.

Sometimes during salaah or just while I am waiting for salaah in the masjid I pass wind, but becoz it is so close to the time or if I am in salaah i do not inspect my boxers afterwards as I fear that if my boxers are messed up i will have to repeat.

I know i should check to see if i have messed my boxers during salaah but I don’t.

So I just ignore and then before my next salaah i check and if there is liquid visible i change, if not then i carry on.

Please advise.

The query is regarding Quran as well as Salaah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You state you have a gas problem and you are a ma’zoor. We are not sure if you are indeed a ma’zoor person. You state you pass wind often (…hence I am a ma’zoor). The mere often passing of wind does not necessarily make one a ma’zoor. A ma’zoor is he who experiences the causes of breaking wudhu so often that he cannot perform two rakaat salah without the cause recurring. At that point, one will be classified as a ma’zoor and will remain a ma’zoor until he does not experience the same cause at least once between the shortest time of two salah.

If according to the above explanation, you are indeed a ma’zoor, then you should make wudhu when the salah time enters. The wudhu will remain for the entire salah time. You may perform any amount of fardh salah, sunnnat salah, and Quran with this wudhu. The passing of wind will not invalidate your wudhu during that salah time.[1][2][3]

You refer to the lining of liquid when you pass wind. We advise you to place a tissue etc. to absorb the liquid to avoid soiling your underwear and remove it before performing salah. If you are unable to do so, your salah with the liquid lining will be valid and you will be excused.[4][5][6][7][8]
