Do I need to make up sunnah prayers that I offered incorrectly by leaving out a wajib?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

May Allah accept your great service for humanity, my question is that a person had been praying his 4 rakaats of sunnate mukkada before zuhr in a way that he didn’t recite any surah after fatiha in the last two rakaats which is I believe compulsory, recently he came to know that he should have been reciting other surahs also, does he has to make up for all the rakaats he prayed incorrectly?

Jazak Allaho Khair

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

No, one does not have to make up a sunnah salah that was offered incorrectly after the time of that salah has expired. [i][ii]
