Group for helping the needy

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

A cousin of mine along with some others have formed a group in which they collect a small amount every month from every person in a family belonging to the same caste (qureshi),and when someone from the same caste(biraadari) is in need of some help they spend the money on him/her.they have helped many when they needed a support from someone.

my question is

(1)will it be allowed to do so as they often neglect people from other caste even if they need help more than the people of biraadari do?

(2)is it wrong to care more about the people from the same biraadari(not just the immediate relatives but the biraadari as a whole)?

(3)if someone encourages people to give priority to the people of the same biraadari(not just immediate relatives)in case of giving zakat, will it be wrong ?

Kindly elaborate the matter in the best way possible.jazakAllah!

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to collect money to assist one’s biraadari at the time of need. Supporting one’s biraadari is also encouraged in Shariah.[1]
