Donations for a Masjid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

There are few brothers in neighboring community wants to build masjeed and wants to collect funds for that. At this point they have not made any offer or have identified any location to have masjeed.

In this case they would like  to collect money first and keep in saving account  and in future if they find right places , they can buy the places.

Is it ok to allwo them to do fund raising or donate money where they have not identified place at the time of fund raising?

Note:They made reqest to use our masjeed for thier fundraising.

Assalamoalaykum for your time.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is an act of great virtue to establish a Masjid and raise funds for that. The success behind such a project depends on the integrity of the people driving the project. If the brothers you refer to are upright and respectable people, then you may place your trust in them for the fundraising. The brothers should also be advised to adopt a position that instills public confidence for the fundraising.

If you are certain that the brothers are able to win the confidence of your congregation and satisfy them and there are no negative consequences of the fundraiser in your community, you may consider permitting them to do so. We advise, you deliberate on the issue with your board in order to make an informed and appropriate decision.
