Is it permissible in Islam for male to shave, trim or shorten the hair which is grown below or around the naval area?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

Shariah accords great importance to cleanliness in every facet including internal, external, spiritual and physical forms.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال

: الفطرة خمس ( أو خمس من الفطرة ) الختان والاستحداد وتقليم الأظفار ونتف الإبط وقص الشارب

“Five things are from amongst the fitra (natural disposition of mankind) circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails, plucking the armpits and trimming the moustache”. (Bukhari: 5889, Muslim: 620)

The Fuqahaa have stated that in removing the pubic hair, it is preferable for one to remove the hair from below the navel area.
