A baby (boy) name that follows the Qur’an and Sunnah

I am Md Rasadujjaman and I am Muslims. I am Bangladeshi.

Inshaallah, coming month I will be father of a little baby.

I am now worry about to decide my baby boy name. Could you please suggest my baby boy name that will follow the Quran and sunnah?

Please suggest one or few names.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. 

We make du that Allah grants you a healthy child. Ameen. We also make dua that Allah guides you to a suitable name for your child.

It is narrated in a hadith that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ

“On the Day of Judgement you will be called by your names and the names of your fathers, so give yourself good names”[1]

Some suitable names are referred to in the following hadith:

تَسَمَّوْا بِأَسْمَاءِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَأَحَبُّ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَصْدَقُهَا حَارِثٌ وَهَمَّامٌ

“Call yourselves by the names of the Prophets and the most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdur Rahman, the truest are Harith and Hammam” [2]

Abdullah means ‘servant of Allah’ and Abdur Rahman means ‘servant of the Merciful One’. These two names have also been mentioned in the Qur’an; Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

وعباد الرحمن الذين

“…and the servants of the Merciful One”[3]

In Surah Jin, Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

وأنه لما قام عبد الله يدعوه

“…and when the servant of Allah stood up in pray to Him”[4]

Approximately 300 Sahabah were named Abdullah; amongst them were two very close companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم; Abdullah ibn Mas’ood and Abdullah ibn Abbas (who was also the cousin brother of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم)

Abdur Rahman was also the name of one of the ten companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم who were guaranteed paradise in this world.
