Is there any authentic Hadeeth that you should spit out the water from the mouth if you stand and drink?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is there any authentic hadith that you should spit out the water from mouth if you stand and drink?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

The Hadith in reference is as follows:

حدثني عبد الجبار بن العلاء حدثنا مروان يعني الفزاري حدثنا عمر بن حمزة أخبرني أبو غطفان المري أنه سمع أبا هريرة يقول  قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يشربن أحد منكم قائما فمن نسي فليستقئ

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said “No person should stand and drink water, and if one forgetfully stood and drank it, it should be vomited out” (Saheeh Muslim, Hadeeth #2026)

The Fuqahaa have stated that is Makrooh (disliked) for one to stand and drink water. The order to vomit such water is a strong expression of condemning standing and drinking water[1]
