I don’t understand that if Quran’s greatest mujiza is in its beauty of language how can this be when most of mankind till qiyama are non-Arabs?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The word mujiza (loosely translated as miracle) is an Arabic word derived from the root word ijz which means to make helpless. The purpose of a mujiza is to convince one by giving him every possible opportunity to oppose the miracle in one way or the other. If he fails to do so, and becomes helpless, he submits that the miracle is supper natural and beyond human capacity.
The Quran has many mujizats. The Arabic of the Quran is just one of the mujizats of the Quran. The various mujizats of the Quran is meant to satisfy various people. For example, the various amazing scientific information in the Quran is not meant for every person. It is meant to convince a person with scientific background. Likewise, the Arabic of the Quran is meant to convince the Arabs who were masters in eloquence of the authenticity of the Quran as they were the first audience of the Quran.
Consider the following verse:
{وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا أَعْجَمِيًّا لَقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ أَأَعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَبِيٌّ} [فصلت: 44]
Translation:
If we had revealed the Quran in a language other than Arabic, they would have said “Why are its verses not clearly expounded? How can the scripture not be in Arabic when the prophet is an Arab?
Furthermore, the Arabic of the Quran is also a mujiza for non-Arabs. In fact the mujiza of the Quran becomes more clear in the case of non-Arabs.
It is a well-known fact that no one will read another language for no reason, let alone memorise another language. The Quran is the highest level of Arabic. Millions of non-Arabs may not even memorise few lines of their own language, yet almost every Muslim knows some portions of the Quran without even understanding them.
Furthermore, the enjoyment a non-Arab experiences by listening to the Quran in spite of him not understanding a single word is beyond comprehension. An Arab enjoying the recitation of the Quran is understood as it is his language and he understands the meaning. How else can we explain thousands of non-Arabs children going through pains and spending valuable time in memorising the Quran without understanding a single word of the Quran. When a person reads a book once in his language, he would not enjoy reading it again. How would one explain thousands of non-Arab Muslims reciting the Quran repeatedly with the greatest enjoyment and tranquillity without even understanding a single word. In many instances the non-Arab reciters will experience flowing of tears from his eyes while reciting the Quran in spite of not understanding the Quran. Is the Arabic of the Quran not a mujiza for non-Arabs?
