Falling topi in salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AnswersToFatawa

What should I do when my topi falls in salaah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If a person’s topi (hat) falls off while praying salaah, it should not be picked up while being in qiyaam (standing up position) or ruku (bowing position) since this can be regarded as amal katheer (excessive actions) which will nullify a person’s salaah. However, if a person’s topi is besides his head in sajdah and is replaced on the head without amal katheer (excessive actions) e.g. with one hand, then that will not only be permissible but is preferred.

And Allah Ta`ala knows best
