If I accept this amount then would it be Halal or Haram for me?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AnswersToFatawa

Aslam-O-Alikum!!

I shifted my job some time back and the pay that I am getting here is less than what I should be getting as per my experience as well as compared to other employees with equal experience in this organization. I have taken up this issue with the HR department as well as my top management. The HR department has told me that as per rules they currently can’t revise my salary. I have informed this to the top management and afterwards they advised my Head of the Department to give me some monetary benefit in lieu of travelling allowance (without me going anywhere) as some compensation. The amount would not be reasonable enough and would not be on monthly base as well but still an accommodating gesture by the Top Management. My question is that if I accept this amount then would it be Halal or Haram for me?

Regards,

Farrukh.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You state that the Head of Department advised the management to give you some monetary benefit in lieu of traveling allowance as a compensation. The allowance even as a gesture of good will, will be regarded as your legitimate salary.
