Video Recording

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) We wanted to record our Annual General meeting in the basement of the Masjid. But one brother stood up and declared this is haram and created a scene. What is your opinion regarding this issue? [Abdul Alami]

A.) There are differences of opinion among reliable scholars regarding the electronic capturing (video, internet, etc.) of animate images being Tasweer (pictures and photography, etc.) or not.

In view of many reliable Ulama prohibiting that, we advise you exercise caution and abstain from video recording especially when an alternative, audio recording, can fulfil the dominant purpose of recording the meeting.
