Question: Assalam alaykum,

What is the legal ruling of wiping the ears during wudu in the Shafi’i school? Should I use new water to wipe them?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Wiping the ears during wudu in the Shafi’i school is a Sunnah and recommended act.
It is permissible to wipe them only once; performing all of the acts of wudu three times is recommended.
It is better to wipe it with new water, but wiping it using the same water used for one’s head or face also accomplishes the Sunnah.
