Is it permissible to send blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) while bowing or prostrating in prayer?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Yes, it is permissible to send blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) while bowing and prostrating in prayer. However, it is superior to busy oneself with the legally determined remembrances for bowing and prostrating. It is praiseworthy during prostration to send blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in addition to the legally determined remembrance, as it is du’a and an etiquette of du’a and a means to acceptance.

Sending blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) when his name is mentioned is sunnah for the one in prayer, even while reciting the Fatiha. This is mentioned in Hashiya Jamal (348/1) and other sources.
