Reciting Qur’an During Prayer

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Amjad Rasheed

Is it permissible to recite Qur’an in the prayer?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

If the person praying is in the standing position of prayer ([m: meaning before bowing]), it is obligatory for him to recite the Fatiha in every rak’ah. It is recommended that one recite some of the Qur’an after it, even if only a little.

During other than the standing position, such as when bowing or prostrating, reciting Qur’an is disliked because [m: the Prophet] (Allah bless him and grant him peace) prohibited recitation of the Qur’an when bowing or prostrating. However, doing so does not invalidate the prayer.
