Ghusl before intimate relationship

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question: Should the husband and wife do ghusl everytime before they have intimate relations?

Answer: No, that is not correct, ghusl is fardh afterwards and not before, however, if one of them or both are in an unsuitable, unattractive state, they should clean themselves first, as a courtesy for their partner.

Our deen is hygiene and promotes cleanliness. Our prophet Sallallahu alayhi wasallam a very clean person with a pleasant appearance.
