Doing Qurbani for the Deceased

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

Assalamu-alikum W.W.

Respected Sheikh, My question is as follows:

Are the great saints of the past alive in their graves today?

Also, If a person does Qurbaani for a great saint of the past out of sheer love for them, will they know of this and can we benefit from their duaas while here in this world ? (please if possible, reply before the days of qurbaani start)

Jazaakallah khair.

Answer

Sorry for the delayed reply. I went for Hajj and was unable to answer the questions.

Doing Qurbani for them is called “Isale-Sawab”. This can be done for any deceased Muslim, and in anyway possible e.g. Sadqah, Salah, Sawm, Tilaawah, Dua, Istighfaar etc. So your Qurbani’s reward will be presented to them. Their Rooh will fell happy when it receives the Sawab.
