How to Avoid Waswasa of Dripping Urine After Using the Restroom

Question: After urination I do what I can to remove as much of the urine in the penis as possible. I clean myself and then all is well. Sometime afterwards, I feel something in my penis and as I’m sitting, walking lifting, laughing etc. I find there’s a gradual build-up of fluids near the tip of the penis. This feeling gets stronger as time goes on. Because I suffer from waswaasah, it is my bad habit to constantly check the tip of the penis to see if anything has come out. I find that after a while, just below the tip of the penis, I feel some fluid (sometimes watery, but most of the time just a tiny bit wet and mildly sticky). It settles below the surface and spreads on the walls of the channel beneath the surface. I check sometimes and feel nothing and other times I feel a lightly and mildly sticky fluidic substance, which sheathes its way on the walls of the urethra, but below the tip and sometimes a tiny bit on the tip! My fear is that It may at any time come out and I am uncertain if it came out or not if I don’t check! Do I need to go to extremes to avoid this?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

No, you do not need to go to such extremes.

You should ignore any feelings and sensations that you have. Such suppositions are of no legal consequence. Do not check anything unless you are absolutely certain that something came out. Otherwise, ignore all doubts, even strong ones. Acting upon doubts is contrary to the sunna and misplaced religious caution.

Anybody who has baseless misgivings should do the following after using the toilet as mentioned in this article: What Should I Do About Left Over Drops Of Urine?

a.After using the toilet, wait a few moments to make sure all remaining drops exit,

b.Squeeze and slightly twist the private part,

c.Wipe the private part with toilet paper,

d.Wash the private part with water three or so times, as mentioned in the Maraqi al-Falah, and

e.Sprinkle water onto your clothes and private parts.

Thereafter, ignore all misgivings. You cannot be certain that anything exited. And certainty is not lifted by anything short of certainty.

And Allah alone gives success.
