Does a Latecomer Have to Utter the Takbir Before Performing the Missed Cycles of Prayer?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalamu Alaikum.

Does the latecomer has to say “Allahu Akbar”, when he rises after the group prayer has ended to perform the missed Rakats?

Answer:Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Yes, the latecomer (masbuq) should say the takbir when rising to make up his missed cycles (rak`ats) as this is the general sunna for movements of the prayer.

And Allah alone gives success.
