Question: Assalamu Alaikum
Do I have to perform 2 rakah sunnah during any make-up prayer of Fajr? It is advised by some elders that the sunnah of Fajr is so heavy with importance that one must make up the sunnah along with the obligatory Fajr prayer.
Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
If you miss the Fajr prayer but make it up before Zuhr during the same day, you would perform the sunna prayer too. [Ibn `Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar `ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar]
Otherwise, and if you are making it up at any other time, you do not pray the sunna prayer with it.
