The Effect of Filth on Ritual Ablution and Praying When Time is Exiting

Question: Assalamu aleykum.

[1] If I get a another person’s or animal’s blood, urine, or feces on my body, will that break my wudu?

[2] What if you see that you have one minute left before the current prayer time is over. You are in a state of wudu but you know that you can not finish the first raka of the current prayer before the time is over. Should you start prayer or wait until the time is over and pray it as a qada?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

[1] The legal cause for the nullification of your wudu is the exiting of filth from your person. As for being affected by filth from another person or an animal, this would follow the rules of removing filth. Thus you would wash away the filth, yet your wudu would remain unaffected.

[2] You should pray a minimal prayer by performing the obligatory actions only, and finish within the time. The obligatory acts of the prayer are five: the standing, recitation, bowing, two prostrations, and the final sitting. You can easily perform such a prayer within 30 seconds or less. However, it would be highly recommended to repeat such a prayer, with all of its necessary and sunna actions, after the time exits.
