Is Allah’s Speech Included in Some Hadiths?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: I am a revert who is confused by something. If we as Muslims believe that the Quran contains Allah’s complete Revelation then why do we so often hear quotations from the Hadith like this one, which I found on your Website: “a. The statement of Allah Most High, “The angels have interceded, the prophets have interceded, and the believers have interceded. None remains to intercede except the most Merciful.” [Bukhari, Muslim]“

Should all things said by Allah not be included in the Quran?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray that you are in the best of health and spirits, insha’Allah.

Traditions (hadiths) which are attributed to Allah are called Hadith Qudsi.

A Sacred Tradition (hadith qudsi) is a hadith in which the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) would receive a meaning from Allah, by way of inspiration or dream, and then he (Allah bless him and give him peace) would inform his community of this meaning in his own words.

This, by definition, is completely different to the Qur’an. For further details on the difference between the Qur’an and the Holy or Sacred Tradition, please see: What is the Difference Between a regular Hadith and a Hadith Qudsi?

And Allah alone gives success.

wassalam,
