Question: I have a habit of reading Surat Ad-Duha and Surat Ash-Sharh for Maghrib salah. An elder at the Masjid told me that appointing particular surahs for particular salahs is bid’ah and thus haram. Is this true? I read them because of how they glorify the Habib (SAW) and because I derive much solace from them. Is it bid’ah and haram to do so consistently?

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
It would be disliked to fix specific chapters (surahs) for the obligatory (fard) prayer if you consider them to be necessary to recite, or you are the imam and consistently reciting these specific surahs would lead others to think that they are necessary. [Ibn `Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
Otherwise, if these surahs are easy for you or you just enjoy reciting them specifically during your Maghrib prayer, there is nothing wrong with that.
