Using Pills to Stop Menstrual Bleeding

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadha Shaista Maqbool

Question: I have been keeping all my fasts before my periods started.  On the first day of my period I took a pill that delays the periods so I don’t have to miss my fasts. It worked and they stopped so I started keeping my fasts again.  Have I done something wrong?

Answer: Wa’alaikum assalaamu warahmatu Allah,

It is permissible to use pills to stop bleeding, so you haven’t done anything wrong. However, one should keep in mind the well-being/health of one’s body in these matters.
