Ending One’s Fast Early

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: I wanted to know if the beginning time for fajr was 3:18am and I closed my fast about 10-12 mins before that, would my vast be valid? Or do you have to close the fast at the exact time?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I hope you are in the best of health and spirits, insha’Allah.

It is valid and permitted to “close” one’s fast (i.e. stop eating and drinking) at any point during the night (i.e. before Fajr). It would be recommended to stop eating and drinking at least a few minutes before Fajr time enters and use the time in worship. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

And Allah alone gives success.

wassalam,
