I Am a Relatively New Muslim. Is ‘Ameena’ a Good Name?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadha Raidah Shah Idil

Question: I am a relatively ‘new’ Muslim and I am now looking to adopt a Muslim name.

Is Ameena a good name? What about Aleema?

Answer: Assalamualaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray this finds you well. Welcome to the fold of Islam! May Allah continue to draw you ever nearer to Him.

Muslim names

Ameena is the name of the Prophet Muhammad’s (upon him be blessings and peace) mother. It is indeed a beautiful name, and I pray that Allah adorns you with its beneficial meanings.

‘Aleema starts with ayn, and not alif. I suggest that you avoid this name due to the ease in mispronouncing it.

Suggestions

Hakimah: wise
Rashidah: the one who guides
Sakinah: tranquility
Taskeen: the one who brings tranquility

Please keep in touch.

Wassalam,
Raidah
