How Can I Be Sure to Have a Correct Intention for Prayer?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalam alaykum,

When I want to pray or make wudu I am afraid that my intention is different from what I want to do.

Can you tell me about intention?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

The intention is the resolve to do something. When you resolve to perform wudu or pray, the intention is present.

Ask Allah for refuge from the accursed devil and his whisperings. Ignore his suggestions, and make wudu when you need to and pray when you need to.
