Should I Repeat My Prayer Because of Vaginal Discharge?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: As salamu aleykum

I am suffering a lot because of vaginal discharge. I wear an underwear to make sure that it does not stick to my limbs or my trousers but sometimes my underwear becomes so wet that the wetness can be seen and felt very clearly. Once it happened to me while I was praying but I didn’t repeat my prayer. Was I right in doing so?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Clear vaginal discharge is not filthy, and does not nullify the ritual ablution (wudu).

The reason it is not invalidating is because it has not passed through a place of filth, like gas exiting the rear for instance. Some have explained that it is akin to the sweating, which is not invalidating.

However, if you are reasonably able to repeat your wudu, then you should strive to do so, but this is not necessary.

And Allah alone gives success.
