Urine exits upon coughing after birth… is there a dispensation for wudu?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Regarding the post partum loosening or weakening of urinary bladder muscles for women, is this considered a difficulty or a sickness? i.e. if any urine exits due to sneezing/coughing/laughing, then does it necessitate a renewal of wudu and a change of clothes before prayer or the like?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

This takes the rulings of those things that regularly break wudu:

1. Unless it qualifies as a chronic excuse, wudu would have to be made each time. (The fiqh of ‘chronic excuses’ follows below.)

2. The urine that comes out is filthy (najis). However, unless it spreads more than 5 cm, it is not obligatory (but, rather, recommended) to remove. It would be best to use some kind of sanitary pads, and to simply change them before prayer.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
