Is human stem cell research allowed in Islam? I ask because during the course of research, cells are isolated from a developing human embryo. However, isn’t it true that according to Islamic thought, an embryo doesnt become alive until three months before pregnancy? If this is the case and human stem cell research obtains cells from embryos before this period, is it allowed?
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
This is a matter that has many nuances, and there is much scholarly discussion on its details. At present, I can’t commit to an answer on this sensitive matter.
And Allah alone gives success.
