Keeping profit from sale of house originally purchased through conventional mortgage

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I once bought a flat on mortgage, it was wrong thing to do. Now I am planning to sell it, this way I won’t be paying interest onwards. What should I be doing with the profit which I have made on this flat?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Yes, it would be permitted to keep the profit you make; though it would be praiseworthy to give a little of it in charity, as an expression of your remorse for the original transaction.
