Sleeping in skimpy clothing: Nakedness and Modesty

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Not Assigned

Husband and wife wear night clothes in their beds which usually don’t cover awrah (man sleeping only in shorts and woman in small dress, etc), is it permissible to sleep this way the whole night? (i.e.; having jinns and angels present, etc.)

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It would not be blameworthy to be in such a state when going to sleep under a blanket. Otherwise, both men and women are expected to cover from navel to knee even when alone.

See answer below for details.
