Wiping Khuffs

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Regarding mash, can the leather socks be put on ANYTIME after the wudu in order for subsequent mash over them to be valid?  (e.g. I make wudu’ at 1pm yet do not put on the khuffayn till 3pm . At 3:30pm I break my initial wudu’.  Can I now make wudu w/mash over my leather socks now?).

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

One may wipe on khuffs (leather socks or their equivalent) any time after wudu(ablution), as long as one does not lose one’s wudu. The time the wiping remains valid (24 hrs for a resident, 72 hrs for a traveller) starts when one first loses wuduafter putting them on.

For example:

If one did wudu at 4 am, put on the khuffsat 6 am, and lost wudu at 3 pm, one has 24 hours from 3 pm.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
