Deferred zakat payment

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Deferred Zakat Payment If at the end of the zakat year (2007) one’s projected zakat amount will be for eg. $1000, would it be permissible to pay this zakat in installments during 2007 year – instead of waiting to pay the total $1000 at the end of the year.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is permitted to pay one’s zakat before it is due; (Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar) and this would be praiseworthy, because it would be considered a way of hastening to fulfill one’s religious duties.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
