At our local masjid the Imam is a Shafi’i and he does qunoot in the salah. I was wondering about the validity of my prayer since I would hence be standing in a position for longer than 3 tasbehs w/o any excuse or what is natural. Should I redo my salah afterwards?
Furthermore, when the Imam starts the qunoot he recites dua that are outside that of duas from Quran and Hadith. From what little I understand I thought it breaks salah (in our madhab) to recite something in salah that is not in the Quran (or Hadith in regard to dua), so would this dua qunoot (which contains dua for the mujahideen of Palestine, etc.) invalidate my salah?
When I am behind a Shafi’i Imam and he starts the dua am I to raise my hands for dua, fold them as if in kiyam, hand them to my side (which is the regular posture one is in after coming up from ruku)? I usually just let my hands dangle to my side. Also, do I say ‘ameen’ during his dua?
Lastly, I am not sure if the qunoot is wajib for Shafi’i’s during fajr but if the Imam known to be shafi’i skips it does it invalidate his prayer thus invalidating our?…That is, if an Imam leaves out a wajib that makes their salah invalid in their madhab but not in ours, since our salah is with the imam, does this invalidate ours?
