Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) is mentioned in the Qur’an, do we stop reciting and send blessings on him, or do we continue reciting?
In the name of Allah, the inspirer of truth. All praise is to Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate, and all blessings and peace to our Master Muhammad, his family, companions, and those who follow them.
Assalamu alaikum,
In al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya, Imam Abu’l Qasim al-Samarqandi’s al-Multaqat fi’l Fatawa is quoted as explaining that,
“1. If one recites the Qur’an and passes by the name of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace), it is better to continue one’s recitation of the Qur’an in its order and sequence than to send blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) at that time.
2. Once one finishes [reciting the Qur’an], it is best if one sends blessings [on the Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace)], though if one does not, then one did nothing wrong.” [al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya, ‘Kitab al-Karakhiyya: Bab 4’]
And Allah alone gives success.
Faraz Rabbani.
