Wudu: Wiping Socks

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

When wiping either leather of waterproof socks, I find that my hand becomes dry by the time I get to the top of the sock. Is this considered a valid wiping?

Yes the wiping (masah) is valid. It is Fard? (Compulsory) to wipe over (make mash?)?? on each sock to the extent of the full surface area of three fingers.

Abu Usamah

What I mean is, if during my ‘wiping’ my fingers/hand becomes dry half way up my foot, is my wiping still considered acceptable?

Walaikum assalam,

The minimum area that needs to be wiped is the extent of three whole fingers of the hand. Put your whole hand on the khuff, and your wiping it valid. What’s the problem? And how do you know that your fingers are dry half way? Who said that you have to look, anyways?

Wassalam,
faraz.
