Navel Dirt

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have dirt that accumulates over time and gets stuck to my navel (i dont know the medical term for it but it is not navel flint). When I do ghusl, I cannot remove it just by using my hand. I need to keep rubbing for a long time and for the parts that are hard to access I need to use a sharp object like a pair of scissors. Do you know about this issue? What do you advice?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

This kind of residual dirt is excused, because (a) it is common and there is hardship entailed in removing it; and (b) it is so slight that it isn’t considered to prevent water from reaching the skin when the area is wetted. [Fatawa Hindiyya; Imdad al-Fatawa; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani
