Women/men wearing rings with certain stones

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari

Does certain stones have effect (taseer)?  People say that “in our family, women don’t wear diamonds” because it brings harm, or that some stone is good for us.  Does wearing certain kind of stones have any cause and affect?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

I have not heard from any of my teachers or read in any book that certain stones and diamonds have an effect (ta’thir) or cause harm in any way. Most of these beliefs are superstitions and false notions that have found its way in certain Muslim communities and it has no basis in Shariah.

One should always remember that benefit and harm is only from Allah Almighty. Keep in mind the advice given by the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) for it is full of wisdom and insight:

“O Child! (Ibn Abbas) Preserve (the commands of) Allah and He will protect you. Preserve (the commands of) Allah, you will find Him before you. When you ask for anything, ask from Allah, and when you seek assistance, seek it from Allah. And know that if the whole of humanity were to unite in order to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah has decreed for you, and if they were to unite in order to inflict any harm upon you, they will not be able to do so except that which Allah has decreed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have become dry”. (Sunan Tirmizi & Musnad Ahmad).

And Allah knows best
