My husband prays at home, while we have a mosque very close to our house. Isn’t it more favorable to pray in a mosque for a man? Is it farth for a man to do his Friday dhuher prayer in a mosque not home?
Assalamu alaykum
The Messenger of Allah (upon him be peace) said, “Salat of a person in congregation [in the masjid] is superior to salat alone (Bukhari, Muslim, and others).
It has been related that there is no salat for the neighbor of the masjid except in the masjid (Hakim and Daraqutni from Ali bi isnad da’if).
The scholars have considered this to mean, although the person’s salat will be completed in terms of the obligation, it will not be complete in way of the reward. It is prohibitively disliked for one living in proximity to the masjid to abandon the congregation without a valid excuse. Although one can make a congregation at home with one’s wife and family members, the rewards and the importance of observing this in the masjid cannot be replaced (source, Tahtawi alal-Maraqi).
