Questions on Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What is the hukm for fasting a nafl fast on a single Friday, Saturday or Sunday? Is this different than fasting two or three nafl fast consecutively on these days?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, and all blessings and peace upon our master Muhammad, his Folk, Companions and those who follow their noble way,

Walaikum assalam,

It is permitted to fast on those days, without it being disliked, unless you seek to “single out” those days because of the day. As for if it is merely more convenient to fast on one of these days (e.g. No work/school) there is nothing wrong.

If a Woman is fasting a nafl fast and she starts her menses is it sinful for her to now eat?

It would be EXPECTED that she stop refraining from food.

If her period FINISHES after a Ramadan day begins, it would be wajib not to eat or drink, even though it does not count as a fast.

If a person is fasting a nafl fast and visits someone who offers them food or drink should it be taken?

It is permitted before Zuhr time to break the fast if it is a non-obligatory fast, unless the person who offers the food is one’s parents and they will dislike your refusal.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
