What is the meaning of the name Samina and should I change it if it means “fat” in Arabic?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalamu alaikum,
I would like to know the meaning of the name Samina, when i researched the name i remember it having a good meaning but recently i have been told it means fat in arabic, if that is the case i would it be best to change the child’s name?

Jazakallah khair

Answer
Bismihi Ta’ala

There is no harm in keeping the name ‘Thameena;. ‘Thameena’ with a thaa’ means ‘highly valuable’, whereas ‘Samina’ with a Seen means ‘fat’.

There is no need to change the childs name, just change the spelling and pronounce it correctly with a Thaa and not a Seen.
