Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem Al Jawaab Billahit-Tawfeeq
Respected sister
Islam is a religion of modesty and one where the women are well distinguished from the men.
Before trying to directly answer this question there are a few points we need to look at and understand:
1. The hadeeth whereby the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Verily actions are (judged) by intentions”. (Bukhari)
2. The prohibition mentioned by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) regarding women imitating men. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The Lord damned the women trying to imitate men [in clothing, style of communication and behaviour] and the men trying to imitate women” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas; Ahmad, Abu Daud, at-Tirmizhi).
Therefore, it would be impermissible for a woman were to wear a pair of jeans with the intention of imitating men due to the hadeeth mentioned above.
However, often our intentions may not be to imitate the kuffaar, nor imitate the opposite gender. Nevertheless, it is better to take the strictest opinion on controversial matters. Therefore, it would be best to avoid wearing jeans. Reason being, when the jeans were first created they were for the male gender.
And Allah knows best
