Why will people who haven’t been shown the light of Islam get punished?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Dear respected Ulama – e – Kiraam,

Assalamu Alaikum,

Someone once asked me: ‘If destiny lies in Allah’s hands, then why will people who haven’t even been shown the light of Islam get punished?’
This person gave an example of what they meant. They said:
A child is born into a non-muslim family. This family live in a country where there are no other religions known except for.. let’s just say Christianity. So this child is brought up as a Christian. They have absolutely any knowldege of any other religion.
So this person being a Christian or whatever religion.. they will end up going to Jahannam because they did not accept islam. But this person didnt in his life ever hear about it. But again… this person will be put into hell even though it wasnt his fault that he lived in a place where only his religion was known.
It would be different if a Muslim had come to the place and called them to islam but that didnt happen for them. So he will be punished?

What i know of this is that many Ulama e Kiraam have told us to not even go near this subject. But if anyone does have an answer, I would greatly appreciate it if the answer be put forward.

May Allah Ta’ala reward you all. Ameen.

Wassalam.

Answer
In the unlikely event a person never hears of Islam and the existence of the prophet and his teachings and has no access to it it will be compulsory upon that person to acknowledge that there is only one God and none is his equal. If that person adopts a religion which has a belief contrary to this they will be considered a non-Muslim and condemned to hell. It should be noted that claiming ignorance to Islam is not an excuse but the person should take an active part in seeking the truth. والله أعلم
