What does “no entry fees” mean in competitions?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
assalamualaikum,
to your recent reply to my question about competitions, i don’t
understand part {3] which says that their should be no entry fees e.g your name being entered in the prize draw what exactly do you mean by that?
because there is no other way ypou can mostly enter competitions

jazakallah

Answer
Assalamu’alaikum w.w.

It means that unless it is a free prize draw, it will
not be permissible. e.g. raffles, etc, where you have
to purchase a ticket is not permissible.

However, if your name is entered in a draw free of
charge, this will be permissible.

Wassalam
