Punishment for Insulting Prophet Muhammad: Quran and Hadith Perspective

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If someone insults the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) then should there be any punishment for him, looking at the fact that he did not kill any innocent human being, and as Allah Ta’ala says that we should forgive anyone who says bad words to us, and we should reply with Salaam? I need references from Quran and the Saheeh Hadith, only then Iwill believe.

Bismillaah

A: These type of masaa’il are beyond your scope of understanding. Don’t get yourself involved in it. Just as if someone had to insult your mother or anybody’s mother of being a prostitute and his father of being a gay and sisters of being in lesbian relationships, you would not expect everybody to respond in a calm and composed way. People are expected to become emotional. It is the abuser’s fault that he has brought the consequences over himself.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
