Durood-e-Ebraheem: Understanding the Missing Part

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My question is about Durood-e-ebraheem. The Quran states in Surah Ahzab (33) Verse 56 صلّوا عليه وسلِّموا, but Durood-e-ebraheem only contains the صلّوا part and not the سلِّموا part. Instead it says اللهم بارك. Can you shed some light on this matter?

Bismillaah

A: The Durood-e-Ebrahim has been reported in several words. It is reported with salaat, barakaat, salaam and tarahhum.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: You stated that Durood-e-Ebrahim is reported with salaat, barakaat, salaam and tarahhum. The Durood-e-Ebrahim that we recite in salaah only contains اللهم صَلِّ and اللهم بارِك so where is the سَلِّمْ. I don’t see salaam and tarahhum. Please kindly explain.

Bismillaah

A: Refer to the attached Forty Durood booklet (Hadith no. 16).

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
