Big vs Small Steps: Sutra or Not?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1.A person has a big step down (e.g. 1m) in front of him. Would this be considered a sutra? i.e. if someone walks past in front he would see their waist

2. What would be the case if the step was small, eg 15cm?

Bismillaah

A:

1. This is not a sutra. A sutra refers to placing an object in front of one while performing Salaah which is an arms length or more than an arms length.

2. As above.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
