Understanding the Hadith: Validity of Prayer after Iqaamah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: When the iqaamah has been said, then there is no prayer is valid except fard prayer for which the iqamath was said. Please explain this Hadith.

Bismillaah

A: Our ulama explain the hadeeth in this manner that at the point where the namaaz is being performed then no other salaah should be performed. If someone has not yet read the sunnats of Fajr and he performs the sunnats in a corner of the musjid away from the saffs without disturbing anybody and ensuring that he will link up with the jamaat namaaz then he does not come under the purview of this hadeeth.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
